Nam Pai Chuan is an applied Martial Art. The System has been voluntarily designed to incorporate, alongside the traditional techniques, dedicated self defence moves. These are designed to provide you with an effective way of controlling your opponent and vary in response to the attack.
Nevertheless the two, traditional Kung Fu techniques and self defence techniques are very much linked as the former were designed for real life fighting situations. In addition you will find that utilising your strength and balance, both related directly to a good understanding of your bodies ‘centre’, will make your defensive techniques much more effective.
Free-sparring is also an integral part of the Nam Pai Chuan system. Although free sparring is governed by very restrictive competition-style rules it does help you understand and appreciate an opponents speed and movement but also to control your own body’s natural reactions (such as adrenaline), which would inherently interfere with your training in real life situations.
